Bluetooth testers add EDR and audio capabilitiesTest instruments must be able to analyse not only the relevant EDR parameters on Bluetooth modules and instruments but also the transmitted audio signals. The new Bluetooth V2.0 + EDR standard has three-times the datarate of earlier versions, and so is ideal for use in headsets and hands-free equipment for mobile phones. To ensure that this equipment functions smoothly, test instruments must be able to analyse not only the relevant EDR parameters on Bluetooth modules and instruments but also the transmitted audio signals. The R and S CBT Bluetooth RF tester and the smaller R and S CBT32 are ideal for this job when equipped with the Bluetooth V2.0 + EDR option as well as new audio options. The new R and S CBT-B41 hardware option enhances the testers by adding two multitone generators and two audio analysers, allowing manufacturers to flexibly create test scenarios for Bluetooth user equipment. The multitone functionality also allows very quick frequency response measurements. The R and S CBT-K54 software option provides the audio profiles that are commonly used in hands-free equipment and headsets. In development and production, performing measurements becomes easier, as users do not need to adapt the firmware of their Bluetooth instruments for the audio tests. For highly accurate measurements, the R and S CBT-B42 hardware option offers digital audio interfaces in accordance with the S/P-DIF specification. Thus, anyone who works with external audio analysers in the lab can prevent a reduction in signal quality as a result of D/A and A/D conversion. Furthermore, it is essential to perform tests in accordance with the EDR test specification. Four new transmitter and four new receiver measurements have been defined for this purpose. With R and S CBTGo software, Rohde and Schwarz offers a total of 18 test cases that have been specified in the standard. To permit EDR receiver tests, the option supports the loopback test mode in accordance with the specification. The loopback tests the receiver sensitivity on an existing Bluetooth connection under virtually realistic conditions. Receiver tests using 'dirty' transmissions required in some test cases can also be performed. Like their basic versions, the R and S CBT and R and S CBT32 with the EDR option installed feature high measurement speed. To measure four 2-DH5 and four 3-DH5 packets on three RF channels, for example, the R and S CBT takes only six seconds. During this period, the tester calculates all test results of the following test cases: EDR carrier frequency stability and modulation accuracy, and EDR relative transmit power. All R and S CBT/R and S CBT32 options are now available from Rohde and Schwarz. |
