Compliance testing targets e-passports

RFI-Smart has launched its complete compliance testing service for e-passports and the Government ID scheme based on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standard. Governments worldwide have taken the decision to implement e-passports to minimise fraud by incorporating a secure chip containing personal information; name, date of birth etc as well as biometric data. The challenge is to make sure that all e-passports work correctly as, to date, there is no worldwide regulatory body, as does exist in the payment industry.

The key issues are security, functionality and interoperability and to ensure all of these are met, rigorous testing is crucial.

The operational and financial implications of e-passport failures are huge.

It is fundamental that the millions of e-passports to be issued are compatible with border control systems worldwide.

Through the early testing of e-passports, issuing authorities will have greater confidence in their successful roll-out.

The e-passport and ID compliance testing service offered by RFI-Smart is backed by nearly 20 years of radio frequency (RF) testing and a long history of excellent working practice with worldwide recognition from the highly regulated payment industry.

Compliance testing for ID and e-passport developments is vital in the absence of any international regulatory body, and the deployment of new technology in new products from new entrants to the industry presents real challenges.

Compliance testing from RFI-Smart, accredited to ISO17025, ensures that the goals of functionality, interoperability and security are achievable within the e-passport and ID card schemes.
