RFI cellular business now 10 years oldRFI Global Services today announced that its cellular business is now in its 10th yearRFI Global Services's cellular business is now in its 10th year. From its base-station test roots in 1992, RFI entered the arena of mobile handset testing in 1997 and has stayed at the forefront of mobile handset development test ever since. Richard Jacklin commenting on RFI Cellular's growth and development says, 'Conformance testing has become even more important'. The increased complexity of handsets now puts 2/2.5G testing time from typically around 110hr to between 700 and 800hr for full conformance testing'. 'This is very challenging in terms of managing the key issue of time to market and lowest cost for our customers'. 'A key aspect of our success can be attributed to our experience, knowledge and involvement in the development of standards together with our ability to respond to the changes faced by manufacturers particularly regarding the number of product variants introduced'. 'In the early days we would see less than 10 phones per year from a manufacturer, today that has increased to more than 40 for a Tier 1 manufacturer'. 'The industry has changed significantly migrating from European and Government regulation to industry driven schemes such as GCF and PTCRB'. 'RFI has been actively involved in developing the GCF and PTCRB test schemes'. 'We are always looking to the future'. 'This year are we already testing convergent products as the industry moves towards true mobile broadband and we expect to rollout automated testing very soon'. The company still has its core team of experts including Colin Forrester who now heads up RFI Korea, Richard Jacklin head of the cellular business as a whole and Stuart Thomas, who heads up technology and service development. |
